Now you can book Harsens Island's best rental for your family vacation without paying the travelers' fees on VRBO or HomeAway. Check available dates here
, and click Contact Us above to reserve your island getaway.
Enjoy all the features and amenities of a $400k+ vacation home with none of the upkeep, hassle, or expense of ownership of a second home.
We have discontinued using VRBO/vacationrentals.com
because of the "travelers fees" they were charging our renters, up to 8-10%! Now you can pay by check, Zelle or Chase Quickpay, and we both have a contract to clarify what each of us will expect, as this is quite a bit more extensive than a motel room in a complex.
This purpose-built summer home is like nothing else on the island — sitting on two acres, offering the privacy that eludes many waterfront properties. The front porch offers the perfect retreat for that sullen teenager to read a book or catch up on critical Facebook updates. Wi-Fi included.
Architecturally unique, the juxtaposition of 120 year old oak barn beams with formal coffered ceiling and recessed lighting is like nothing you have ever seen.
Enjoy the 2018 upgrades — river rock fireplace, new flooring and furniture, paint, driveway resurfacing.
With five bedrooms, your privacy extends to the inside:
- Tangerine Room — quality Queen size bed, dresser, farthest from the activity areas, sleeps 2
- Bunk Room — double and twin, sleeps 3
- Front Room — double and twin, sleeps 3
- Front Loft — twins, sleeps 2
- Rear Loft — double, sleeps 2
- Sofa couch, brand new, sleeps 2
The lodge's unique design can close off the kids in the East wing, so they can stay up, watch Comcast cable, have their own full bath, and sleep in the lofts, while you and the others stay in the West end, with access to the kitchen, a full bath, and a second door to the patio.
Central air, nice cotton sheets, quality mattresses.
Wake up to a first-class kitchen with the dishes, silverware, pans, toaster, microwave, dishwasher, coffeemaker, pans, etc, in place, and have a cup of coffee on the oversize deck, watching the cranes, ducks, and swans in the shoreline.
Go and get a paper from the little market in the quaint downtown and return just in time to see what the boys caught who woke up early to go and fish. Direct them to the stainless fish cleaning station with water, power, and light so they can clean a couple for lunch.
Finish the paper, take a nap on one of the lounges, go for a boat ride, dive off the dock into the 10 feet plus of clear St. Clair River, morning snorkeling is great.
Maybe play a couple rounds of tennis down the street, while the grandkids play on the playground equipment.
Take your wife for a bike ride to the mainland and pick up a few things from the Kroger 1.5 miles upriver — bikes ride free on the 24-hour ferry. Maybe stop for dinner on the mainland, or enjoy a nice dinner on the deck, and finish off the evening with a campfire.
Tomorrow, do it all over again — or run back into the city for that one meeting midweek that would have prevented you from otherwise having a wonderful vacation. It's worth it if only to once again get that feeling when the ferry leaves the mainland, and you leave all those cares behind.
